From organizations who offer help doing odd jobs for those in town to food banks looking to provide healthy meals to those less fortunate, there is no shortage in how you can get involved and give back this season. Here are just a few local organizations:

Beacon Mutual Aid
Beacon Mutual Aid was created at the start of the pandemic to help those in need of grocery shopping and people who needed help with odd jobs around the house. The organization offers additional support through neighborhood pods for those who don’t have access to online communication. Volunteers can fill out a form online to offer what services they are able to volunteer for.

Fareground Food + Community
Fareground is a women-run organization whose mission it is to provide access to healthy and affordable food to those in need. They work with local farms and organizations to secure donations or affordable food to offer to the rest of the community. To learn more or volunteer and donate, visit their website.

I Am Beacon
I Am Beacon was created in 2012 and serves to inspire and empower others to make a positive contribution to the community. The organization provides education resources while engaging in collaborative efforts with local businesses, organizations, social groups, local government and school district. Residents can visit their website to learn how they can volunteer today.

St. Andrew’s Food Pantry & St. Luke’s
The food pantry provides fresh, frozen and non-perishable goods to Beacon residents. Residents in need can visit the pantry on Saturday’s from 10 am – 11 am, with proof of residency, to receive groceries. Members of the community can either donate goods by bringing them to the pantry on Fridays or call to donate monetary donations which allow the pantry to purchase the goods they need most.

There are so many other wonderful organizations in Beacon that allow you to give back and make a difference within the community. If you are interested in volunteering, we encourage you to reach out to these organizations to get started.
