Despite the craziness that comes with the holiday season, it’s truly the most wonderful time of the year. Caroling, lights, decorations, and enjoying time with family and friends– it’s a non-stop celebration.
Wouldn’t it be great to keep this wonderful feeling and experience the same joy on “ordinary” days? Reality is that most days are ordinary and don’t have anything special about them. Unfortunately, too many ordinary days can lead to lack of joy, bitterness, and even resentment. However, we do have the power to avoid these things by taking time to do things we enjoy every day. These little celebrations keep us in a good mindset and help us stay in gratitude of the life we have.
I know exactly what your brain is saying…who has time for mini celebrations in the middle of a tedious day. Well, it is important to take the time. As stressed out as the holidays can be with running around shopping, attending parties, and cooking for 20 people, we still are able to find the joy in all of it. Your every day celebrations could simply be getting dessert at dinner, having a Facetime lunch with a good friend, sitting outside in the sun for a few minutes, or taking a walk.
In the midst of our busy days if we begin to see opportunities to laugh or do something special to celebrate life, we can begin to enjoy the “ordinary” and every day can become a holiday. Finding the joy in each day will allow us to realize the gift that we are given when we are given another day.
