Last year was a definite whirlwind. With so many amazing successes and memories, it is safe to say 2021 was a year for the books. Upon some self-reflection, here are the most impactful lessons I have learned that I will be taking with me as we head into the New Year and welcome 2022.
1. I have been converted
I have always been an introvert, a bit shy and would need to re-energize myself if I spent time a lot of time around a group of people. However, since opening the store and interacting with customers face-to-face – whether they are shopping or taking a soap making class – I have become more of an extrovert. It has been so great to create new connections with all my amazing customers, who inspire me and give me an energy boost as soon as they walk in the door. I look forward to seeing each of you every day.
2. Customers have the best ideas
From working with customers and going over what their needs are for soaps, self-care, as well as their impact on the planet, I have been able to create new products much easier. Forging so many new relationships has really allowed me to see beyond just what I have in mind and see how I can continue to improve to help everyone.
3. People really want to help small businesses
We have always had great customers and word of mouth has grown our business. Last year, I was surprised on how many people became ambassadors for our brand. We get so much love from our customers in the store, online and on social media. Sometimes I have to pinch myself – that I get to do this job every day. I can see the progression from customers buying products for themselves, loved them, and bought them for friends and family. Then those gift receivers try the products and now they are customers. The positive word-of-mouth has had an enormous impact on our brand, and we could not be more grateful.
4. Folks not only find products in our store, but peace.
People have come into the store to find natural products that are good for their skin and beneficial for their overall health. But since beginning our mediation classes, we discovered we have also created a community of like-minded people that come to our space when they are looking to relax and find peace. We started the brand to help remind others (and myself) to practice self-care and it is wonderful that we have been able to expand this service beyond just our products. You can only embrace your best self when you feel at harmony and peace within, and man is that contagious.
Last year had times that were tough, but we still had so much to be thankful for. We cannot wait to see what the next year will bring.
